Vernon Reception children had to follow the footsteps down to Gruffalo Woods this morning and see if they could match the animals with their correct habitats. There was a letter from the Gruffalo explaining that a new neighbour was moving in and we had to guess who it was going to be. Look on our gallery for pictures.
Watch out again tomorrow for more information on who the new woodland neighbour is going to be!

Year Four have had a great start to the Spring term. When the children arrived this morning there was a mysterious rucksack filled with mystery items in it! After exploring it, they discovered that it belongs to Charlie Small. We are now reading his journal and finding out all about his adventures. Everyone wants to know what happens, as we left him at the top of a waterfall!

It has been non stop hard work over the last few weeks in Year 3!
We have begun writing settings and creating characters for our very own adverture stories. We can't wait to get started on our writing. We have also been learning how to use the formal method for multiplication and both classes have challenged themselves really well.
Rehearsals for our Christmas performance are well under way and we are having a great time singing all of our Christmas songs. We look forward to sharing it with you next week.

We've had another busy couple of weeks in year 3.
In Maths we've been learning about multiplication and sharing into equal groups. In English, we have been working hard to describe using powerful adjectives and have been reading an amazing story 'The Pirate Cruncher' by Jonny Duddle. In our lessons, we have been doing lots of drama to show how the pirates will have been feeling throughout the story. We've also started practising our singing ready for our Christmas performance, which we are all very excited about!

We had a very exciting workshop on Wednesday for our Titanic Day. The children took part in lots of different games and activities that help build on their super Titanic knowledge. They built a human timeline to recognise how far back the Titanic was and re-enacted the Titanic hitting an ice burg!! In the afternoon the children got to showcase their brilliant art skills with their AMAZING paintings of the Titanic.
What a super day Year 2!!

Magnifying glasses were used, questions made and plenty of mark making! They solved the clues and discovered that Goldilocks was to blame! See our gallery for photos.

On the 16th November, 45 Year 6 evacuees set off to the Stockport Air-Raid Shelters. They had their ration lunches packed up and carried their gas mask boxes just in case! The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about air-raids, gas mask drills, 'make do and mend' and salvage before eating their ration lunches (some including Spam!). The afternoon was spent underground in the air-raid tunnels where the children were able to experience first-hand how it would have been in 1940 during an air-raid. Mrs Johns, Mrs Harold and Mr Gilhooley were incredibly proud of the way the children conducted themselves. Thank you to all the parents who helped organise costumes, lunches and gas mask boxes for this brilliant experience.

Today, Tuesday 13th November, Year Four have had a wonderful day at the Liverpool World Museum. We explored lots of the galleries including the dinosaurs, the aquarium and the bug house. We spent a lot of time in the Ancient Egypt gallery where we saw some real mummies! In the morning, we watched a theatre show all about mummification. Some children had to take on the role of an embalmer and had to pull the brains of a dead Egyptian prince out through his nose! All the children behaved beautifully and have learnt a lot about mummification which we will use in our work back at school.

We have had a busy first week back in Year 3 this week!
We have been learning all about different conductors and insulators in science and finding our own examples around the classroom.
During the afternoon we have been designing our own cycling helmets and we will be entering them in to a competition next week.
For our homework we are making mini treasure boxes to light up in science. This will be a fabulous finish to our electricity topic.

WOW! What a busy last week of this half term we had in year 2!
On Wednesday Vernon was overrun by caped crusaders and it's a very good job too! We discovered that during the night Evil Peas had escaped from our freezer and had captured vegetables all over the school! There were petrified parsnips and cowering carrots everywhere! But, have no fear Year 2 came to the rescue along side Supertato and a whole host of other heroic veggies friends!
Friday brought with it Mindful Day and that meant only one thing for year 2, PYJAMAS! We had a wonderful relaxing day looking at the meaning of being mindful; creating sensory cloud dough, practicing our breathing strategies and even breaking out a few yoga poses!
Year 2 have had an unbelievable first half term, all the children have settled in brilliantly and all deserve a fabulous half term break. But, get rested superheroes, more exciting missions await you when term starts again!

Miss Wildig and Miss Worthington are delighted at how the children have settled into Year One. Everyone has had an extremely enjoyable and busy first half term!
The children have shown great enthusiasm for our topic 'A Bug's Life' and have been keen to learn and challenge themselves during their time in Year One. The children demonstrated their fantastic knowledge of minibeasts during our fabulous minibeast day, as well as modelling some excellent minibeast costumes!
In Year One, the children are enjoying daily English and Maths lessons, as well as daily phonics and guided reading sessions. In Maths we have been learning about place value, measurement and time, as well as focusing on our number bonds to 10. In English the children have been developing their writing skills using adjectives and correct punctuation. The children also wrote their own Bug's Life Adventure story, which were all amazing!
Date: 4th Nov 2018 @ 11:17am
On Friday 26th October, Year Four had a very calm but productive day. The children brought their slippers into school which they wore around the classroom. They also had their favourite cushions for extra relaxation. During the day, relaxing music was played as the children worked. In the morning, they thought about their strengths and what makes them an individual. They then considered personal targets that they would like to work towards for the rest of the year. These could be anything they wanted for inside or outside of school. After lunch, the children worked in teams to create Egyptian board games and thought about how they had used their strengths within their teams. Before the end of the day, the children played their games and decided to keep them in school to played during wet playtimes.

Parents should have now received their log-in to School Spider. Please make sure you have downloaded the School Spider app to your Apple or Android device, accept notifications and stay logged in! The app is not 'social' in anyway; you will not be able to comment, like or share any information. It is a portal providing school communications and feeds directly to parents from our new website. It replaces expensive text messaging and elusive paper letters/slips in school bags. It will help!
So sit back, stay informed and enjoy new school comms direct to your mobile device.
