Today, Tuesday 13th November, Year Four have had a wonderful day at the Liverpool World Museum. We explored lots of the galleries including the dinosaurs, the aquarium and the bug house. We spent a lot of time in the Ancient Egypt gallery where we saw some real mummies! In the morning, we watched a theatre show all about mummification. Some children had to take on the role of an embalmer and had to pull the brains of a dead Egyptian prince out through his nose! All the children behaved beautifully and have learnt a lot about mummification which we will use in our work back at school.

WOW! What a busy last week of this half term we had in year 2!
On Wednesday Vernon was overrun by caped crusaders and it's a very good job too! We discovered that during the night Evil Peas had escaped from our freezer and had captured vegetables all over the school! There were petrified parsnips and cowering carrots everywhere! But, have no fear Year 2 came to the rescue along side Supertato and a whole host of other heroic veggies friends!
Friday brought with it Mindful Day and that meant only one thing for year 2, PYJAMAS! We had a wonderful relaxing day looking at the meaning of being mindful; creating sensory cloud dough, practicing our breathing strategies and even breaking out a few yoga poses!
Year 2 have had an unbelievable first half term, all the children have settled in brilliantly and all deserve a fabulous half term break. But, get rested superheroes, more exciting missions await you when term starts again!

Miss Wildig and Miss Worthington are delighted at how the children have settled into Year One. Everyone has had an extremely enjoyable and busy first half term!
The children have shown great enthusiasm for our topic 'A Bug's Life' and have been keen to learn and challenge themselves during their time in Year One. The children demonstrated their fantastic knowledge of minibeasts during our fabulous minibeast day, as well as modelling some excellent minibeast costumes!
In Year One, the children are enjoying daily English and Maths lessons, as well as daily phonics and guided reading sessions. In Maths we have been learning about place value, measurement and time, as well as focusing on our number bonds to 10. In English the children have been developing their writing skills using adjectives and correct punctuation. The children also wrote their own Bug's Life Adventure story, which were all amazing!

On Friday 26th October, Year Four had a very calm but productive day. The children brought their slippers into school which they wore around the classroom. They also had their favourite cushions for extra relaxation. During the day, relaxing music was played as the children worked. In the morning, they thought about their strengths and what makes them an individual. They then considered personal targets that they would like to work towards for the rest of the year. These could be anything they wanted for inside or outside of school. After lunch, the children worked in teams to create Egyptian board games and thought about how they had used their strengths within their teams. Before the end of the day, the children played their games and decided to keep them in school to played during wet playtimes.

Parents should have now received their log-in to School Spider. Please make sure you have downloaded the School Spider app to your Apple or Android device, accept notifications and stay logged in! The app is not 'social' in anyway; you will not be able to comment, like or share any information. It is a portal providing school communications and feeds directly to parents from our new website. It replaces expensive text messaging and elusive paper letters/slips in school bags. It will help!
So sit back, stay informed and enjoy new school comms direct to your mobile device.

Year Six have been investigating Germany's relentless attacks on London and, in particular, their air-assault on The Picture Palace Theatre (from Letters from the Lighthouse). Our reporters on the ground discovered a series of clues left amid the debris, including evacuees' teddy bears, maps concealed in smoking pipes and hastily scrawled German letters, leading us to suspected double-agent John 'Queenie' Queens and his plot to assassinate British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill.
Keep an eye on the Year Six gallery; we look forward to sharing our completed newspaper reports soon!

Year 2 have had a busy few weeks completing all their Superhero missions set by their fellow Superheroes!!
The children have been using their mind powers to crack codes and help solve super tricky addition problems, using number lines in Maths.
They have also been incredibly busy in English as they have been completing their own Superhero stories. The stories included plenty of exciting vocabulary to help bring their superhero identities to life - they are all amazing!!

Over 4 weeks Year 1 watched the amazing transformation of our 5 caterpillars. Once they had eaten enough food to store energy, they climbed to the top of their home and dangled down, turning into a chrysalis. After much anticipation, the children came in to find a beautiful butterfly. We couldn’t stop looking at the chrysalides, waiting for them to emerge.
The day finally arrived!
The children witnessed the incredible moment when the caterpillars emerged as a beautiful butterfly. This process did not take long, so we were careful not to miss it. The children were amazed and so excited that they had looked after their caterpillars so well that they had become butterflies.
We made sure they had lots of fruit so they wouldn’t go hungry.
When it was a sunny day, we released the butterflies near some flowers.
It was magical!

On Thursday October 11th, Year 5 pupils arrived at school dressed as Greek Gods and Goddesses and Greek heroes in order to welcome a very special visitor – Hermes - to share his knowledge about the myths and legends of Ancient Greece.
Hermes and his time-travelling assistant Tam explained the stories of the heroes and monsters that the children have enjoyed reading during their English lessons.
Children learnt about the battle equipment that the Spartan warriors had to use and the reasons why they were constructed in specific ways. The children answered quiz questions to demonstrate their knowledge of the Ancient Greeks, including how the Olympic athletes were 'dressed' to run a marathon!
In the afternoon the children enthusiastically prepared their own Greek food. They thoroughly enjoyed making Tzatziki, vegetable kebabs, Greek salad and Pitta Meze as a feast fit for Zeus!
“The food was absolutely delicious – apart from the olives!”, Adam, Year 5 pupil.
“I really enjoyed modelling the Spartan helmet and understanding what it was like to be an Ancient Greek,” Oliver, Year 5 pupil.

Over the last couple of weeks in Year 4 we have been finding out more about shadows. The children have experimented with torches to find out how a shadow is made. They were then given challenges to find how to make them larger, smaller, longer and shorter. They received a mysterious message stating that the best sundials are made out of glass! The children worked hard to investigate this and proved that this was false!

What an amazing day!

Mrs Johns and Mr Gilhooley have been incredibly impressed with everybody's fantastic start to Year Six!
We have been exploring place value and the four operations in Maths, investigating various writing types and delving into a number of superb texts in English, whilst getting to grips with our topic, Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
Our classes were also interrupted, mid-English lesson, by the relentless wailing of an air-raid siren and had to seek shelter under the desks until our ARP warden gave the all-clear.
Please see our Gallery photos for more.
We have also been incredibly busy crafting our job applications for the various roles available to Year Sixes. We now have Headteacher's Assistants, Toast Monitors, Digital Leaders, Safeguarding Officers and a number of other vacanices filled. Both Mrs Johns and Mr Gilhooley were deeply impressed with the level of commitment shown in the quality of your job applications.
Well done Year Six!
